The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour Prepares Its Largest Field in 2011

Raleigh, NC, May 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour will host the “UNC Tarheel Junior Championship” at UNC Finley on May 14-15, 2011. With over eighty players registered, this major event features the largest field of 2011. The field includes some of the Tarheel Golf Foundation’s top-ranked players, including past overall UNC Tarheel Junior Champions Todd Eckstein and Grayson Murray. Eckstein of Durham, NC shot four under par (68-72—140) to win the most recent Tarheel Junior Championship in September 2010. Eckstein, who will attend Davidson in the fall, looks to defend his title. Murray of Raleigh, NC shot five under par (69-70—139) to win the event in 2009. Murray, who won the NCHSAA 4-A Mideast Regional invitational title earlier this week, hopes to earn his third victory with the Tarheel Golf Foundation in 2011. The field also includes many other talented junior golfers from several different states.

A large field is no surprise for the Tarheel Junior Golf Tour. The Foundation continues to grow with over 1200 members, representing twenty-four states and four countries. Less than one month ago, the Tarheel Junior Golf Tour hosted the “Callaway Junior World Qualifier” with over seventy players. With limited field sizes, tournaments are often filled before the deadline. The Rex Hospital “Junior Invitational,” which will be held on June 5, filled up six weeks before the tournament. The “UNC Tarheel Junior Championship” is also filled with ten players on the alternate list.

The Tarheel Golf Foundation is a North Carolina non-profit organization that promotes junior golf and runs the Tarheel Junior Golf Tour. The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour provides nationally ranked tournaments for aspiring college golfers.
