WHAT: A five-evening celebration of fashion in the “Holy City,” appropriately dubbed Charleston Fashion Week (CFW) presented by Charleston magazine (CM)

WHEN: Tuesday, March 20 through Saturday, March 24, 2007

WHO: Local clothing and accessory retailers and all fashion enthusiasts

WHY: To celebrate Charleston’s growing fashion-forward community and to raise money for the Dress for Success® non-profit organization

Charleston magazine presents the first annual Charleston Fashion Week, a five-night celebration of fashion and Charleston’s burgeoning retail and design community. Beginning Tuesday, March 20 and continuing through Saturday, March 24, 2007, downtown Charleston’s historic Marion Square will echo New York’s Bryant Park during NYC Fashion Week with enclosed tents filled with the latest designer wares. Charleston magazine will invite local retail stores to produce and present runway shows featuring their Spring 2007 collections.

The week will deliver a number of surprises including celeb emcees and special guest appearances. Charleston mayor Joe P. Riley, Jr. will kick-off the week on the official catwalk. Charleston Fashion Week also welcomes Laura Bennett of Bravo TV's Project Runway--with her line of dresses--for a chic finale finish.

Charleston magazine is organizing and promoting the schedule of events and will host the Finale Party to formally close Charleston Fashion Week. All net proceeds from event ticket sales and from the Finale Party will benefit Dress for Success®, Charleston County. With the support from the City of Charleston, the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and local retail owners, this community-minded event will celebrate local fashion and the Dress for Success® charity.

Nationally renowned designers and notable public figures are expected to appear at festivities throughout the week. By attracting regional and national media attention, Charleston Fashion Week will mark a new era for this historic city.

The mission of Dress for Success® is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Charleston magazine reflects the rich tapestry of the city, her people, cultural traditions, distinctive architecture, and natural beauty. Their continued goal is to cover the evolution of this diverse community—its local icons, pressing issues, style, food, entertainment, and more—while preserving its historic traditions.
