ThinkGeo Releases Map Suite 5.0, a Major Update of Its GIS Software Development Components

This major milestone refresh brings new features, improved performance and the latest technology to the entire Map Suite family, including native TAB file support, the all-new map legend feature, enhanced projection metadata support, International Date Line wrapping, OpenLayers 2.10 and much more.

Frisco, TX, May 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- ThinkGeo has released version 5.0 of Map Suite, its full line of GIS software components for .NET developers. This major milestone refresh brings new features, improved performance and the latest technology to the entire Map Suite family, including native TAB file support, the all-new map legend feature, enhanced projection metadata support, International Date Line wrapping, OpenLayers 2.10 and much more.

The legend API is new in Map Suite 5.0 and provides GIS developers with an easy way to create beautiful map legends in just a few lines of code. Legends are fully customizable from position and size to background color, font style and other properties, and legend symbols can be quickly built using Map Suite's style system.

Map Suite 5.0 also delivers broader file format support to GIS developers, especially those with map data in TAB format, which is now natively supported for greater stability and robustness. The included Feature Data Objects (FDO) extension, which greatly expands Map Suite's file format support, is now fully supported in 64-bit operating environments. Plus, Map Suite 5.0 supports reading from and writing to projection metadata (PRJ) files.

Other noteworthy enhancements in this release include built-in support for displaying Bing Maps™ from Microsoft®, OpenLayers 2.10, Google Maps™ API version 3, and support for iOS touch events (including pinch zooming) on maps made with Map Suite Web Edition 5.0. Every Map Suite product also contains more than 80 individual bug fixes and improvements, many of which were identified or requested by members of Map Suite's extensive user base. Complete change logs are available at the ThinkGeo Wiki (http://wiki.thinkgeo.com), the company's official online source for Map Suite documentation, reference and learning material.

The 5.0 update includes new builds of all of Map Suite's major editions, including Desktop, Web, Silverlight, WPF Desktop, Services and WMS Server Editions, as well as the Map Suite Geocoder, World Map Kit and other Map Suite extensions. ThinkGeo's biannual release plan puts them on track to unveil the next major milestone of Map Suite, version 5.5, in November of 2011.
