Grauer School Robotics Team Scores San Diego Fair Award

The Grauer School award-winning robotics Shockwave team took home top awards in the Student Showcase competitive exhibit at the San Diego County Fair.

Encinitas, CA, July 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Grauer School award-winning robotics Shockwave team took home the award for Best in Show, Best in Class, 1st Place and the Wesley Shaw Award in the Student Showcase competitive exhibit at the San Diego County Fair. The contest received multiple entries from local area high schools during the 2011 event that drew a record number of over a million attendees to the Del Mar venue. This award is the culmination of an extraordinarily successful year for the Shockwave team who won the Think award at the Los Angeles Championship, the Inspire award from the San Diego Championship, the 2nd Place Alliance Team competition in Las Vegas and finished in the top 20% of the St. Louis World Championship. Grauer School Shockwave team members include: Levi Li (2011); Alex Guy (2012); Michael Burton (2012); Stephen Linam (2013); Keenan Jones (2013) and Jacob Baiser (2015). The team has been working on the winning robot since September of 2010 and was built for the FIRST ®(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition FTC Championships.

Shockwave team member Stephen Linam explains, “After the FIRST FTC Championship season came to a close, it was exciting to enter our robot in the San Diego County Fair competition to unveil our work to the general public. Jacob Baizer and I spoke to the robotics judges at the fair to explain how our team developed the robot and the accomplishments we achieved with it during the year. It’s amazing how much every team member learned this year in math, physics, computer programming and overall robotic construction at The Grauer School. This is only the second year we’ve had a robotics team and it’s already grown from three to six members. We anticipate the team will grow even larger next year, particularly with our recent wins.”
