APS Solar Partners with Houston Habitat to Reduce Neighborhood’s Energy Consumption

Alternative Power Solutions Corp., dba APS Solar has partnered with Houston Habitat for Humanity to bring a local Houston neighborhood closer to net zero energy consumption.

Houston, TX, August 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Alternative Power Solutions Corp., dba APS Solar has partnered with Houston Habitat for Humanity to bring a local Houston neighborhood closer to net zero energy consumption. Twenty residences are expected to have solar electric systems when completed. Four of the homes also have a solar thermal system which helps reduce 30 percent of electrical consumption by heating water through a 32 square feet collector. Four homes have been completed thus far including full installation of the systems. Each home contains a 2 kW photo voltaic electrical generation system. This system was designed to help reduce the energy consumption and harmful carbon dioxide emissions for a Houston Habitat community. The solar arrays combined are expected to produce more than 47,980 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year by converting sunlight into pollution-free electricity. Each solar array occupies over 154 square feet and consists of 10 solar panels that are 200 to 240 watts each. When completed, the neighborhood will offset 1,797,620 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over thirty years.
