About Helen Mintz-Hittner

Dr. Helen Mintz-Hittner is the Alfred W. Lasher III Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston Medical School. Dr. Mintz-Hittner received her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and German from Rice University. She specializes in Pediatric Ophthalmology-Retinopathy of Prematurity, Ophthalmic Genetics. Her awards are numerous including being named to Who’s Who in America in 2003 and to the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 2010. She is the author of 1 book, multiple book chapters and over 100 peer-reviewed publications including 2 lead articles in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Mintz-Hittner is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Lifetime Member of the Society of Heed Fellows, a member of the New York Academy of Medicine, the New York Academy of Science, the Ciba Foundation, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She enjoys research field trips to identify hereditary ophthalmogic genes.
