New Medical Breakthrough: FDA Approved Device Can Turn Deadly Oral Cancer Into Treatable Cancer

New York, NY, April 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- A new breakthrough technology sets new oral tissue screening standards, enabling cancerous lesions to be diagnosed that may be undetectable under regular overhead white dental lights.

The new device, VELscope, uses blue excitation light and a specialized filter to help dental professionals screen the oral cavity for cancerous lesions. “The VELscope offers our patients a quick and painless way to decrease the potential devastation from undiagnosed oral cancer,” says Dr. Reid Winick, New York City dentist, researcher, and lecturer.

∙ 30,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer per year
∙ Mortality rate is over 50% at 5 years
∙ One person every hour dies from oral cancer

If detected early, oral cancer is 90% survivable.

“The VELscope system allows us to see things we’ve previously been unable to see.”
