New Study Assesses Content Quality on Public University Websites

Top 25 Public College websites were studied and focused on findings from broken links to misspellings.

Minneapolis, MN, November 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A new study researched by Siteimprove, known for their website governance tools making content quality assurance easier and more affordable since 2003, scanned the top 25 public college websites. The data collected from the study was an overview on each website and broken down into categories. The list used to implement this study is from US NEWS best national public college rankings of 2011.

Gathering the data, Siteimprove ran a website check on the first 2,000 pages of the top 25 public college websites. The findings show an average of 709 broken links. 75% of the broken links were internal and 25% were external.

The average number of unique misspellings found on the first 2,000 pages is 105. The five most common misspelled words are: opportunities, technology, accessibility, chemistry, acquisition, coordinator, sustainability, according to the findings from Siteimprove.

For accessibility, the data shows 21 out of 25 websites did not have appropriate alternative text on more than 100 images.
