Many, LA, November 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On November 19, extreme mountain bike racers from across the country gathered at northwest Louisiana’s Cypress Bend Resort in Sabine Parish to compete in the “Battle at the Bend,” the final race of the inaugural Louisiana XC State Championship Series.

Pro racer Nevada Thomason of Tyler, Texas, was presented with a trophy and cash prize for his first-place finish at the “Battle at the Bend” during the Louisiana XC State Championship Series awards dinner held in the Grand Ballroom of the Cypress Bend Resort.

Accepting his award before a crowd of hundreds, Thomason said, “This state championship series has not only opened my eyes to the amazing diversity and beauty of its local terrain, but also gave me the opportunity to meet other racers from across the country.”

The Louisiana XC State Championship Series was created to showcase the natural diversity of Louisiana's terrain providing mountain bike enthusiasts with significant elevation changes, flowing trails and beautiful scenery.

In fact, The “Battle at the Bend” racetrack, Hercules, features a 6.1-mile loop with 1,000 feet of grueling climbs and downhill elevation changes typically seen in famous mountain bike destinations such as Colorado.

“This is something you’d find in northeast Vermont or other locales known for very challenging mountain bike courses. I would never have imagined Louisiana would have this terrain, but I will definitely be back next year to battle Hercules,” said pro rider and World-Cup finisher John Arias of New Jersey.

Also in attendance at the awards presentation were Jim Pratt, executive director of the Sabine River Authority; Kimberly Bridges of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission and Ken Friesen, Cypress Bend Resort’s vice president of operations.

“For the riders here from New Mexico, Texas, New Jersey and all over, we thank so you so much for joining us this evening,” said Friesen. “On behalf of the proud residents and bike racers from Louisiana, it is our honor to have you join us in a place which deserves to be showcased for all the natural resources and activity opportunities it affords us and our visitors.”
