Roche Diagnostics to Present New Data at GTCbio’s Rediscovering Biomarkers Conference (July 23-24, San Diego, CA)

Biotech/Pharmaceutical conference (GTCbio's Rediscovering Biomarkers: Detection, Development and Validation conference) features Roche Diagnostics at San Diego event.

Monrovia, CA, May 10, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Michael Tacke, Director of Proteomics at Roche Diagnostics in Penzberg, Germany will present on “Chances and Hurdles in the Quest for New Cancer Biomarkers Using Proteomic Technologies” at Rediscovering Biomarkers: Detection, Development, and Validation Conference on July 23-24, 2007 in San Diego, CA.

In many diagnostic and therapeutic areas there is a high medical need for novel biomarkers with improved sensitivity and specificity. One area of particular interest is the early detection of cancer since for many tumors curative treatment options are only available at early disease stages. Proteomics technologies are now offering unique chances to identify new candidate markers. Before bringing a new marker into the market three successive developmental phases have to be complemented – a marker discovery phase, in which a variety of proteomics technologies can be applied, a validation phase in which the diagnostic performance of candidate markers has to be assessed in defined sample collectives of sufficient size and finally the product development phase with the transfer of the marker to a robust test platform. The hurdles that a potential candidate marker has to pass in each developmental phase are considerable and will be addressed in this presentation.

The Rediscovering Biomarkers: Detection, Development, and Validation conference will take place on July 23-24, 2007 at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla in La Jolla, CA. Additional topics to be covered include Biomarker Application in Oncology; Tools for Improving Measurement, Safety, and Validation; and Leveraging Upcoming Trends and Technologies.
