Kilwa Biomass Develops Biomass Research Tool for Biomass Developers

Kilwa Biomass Announces the Release of the Community Biomass Analytic Tool. CBAT Can Identify Biomass Resources and the Quantity of Biomass for Any County in the U.S.

Pittsburgh, PA, January 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Kilwa Biomass announces the release of the Community Biomass Analytics Tool (CBAT) on kilwabiomass.com. CBAT is a free database that can be used to identify the forestry biomass resources in a community required to expand local bioenergy and biochemical development. CBAT is a listing of over 20,000 loggers, sawmills, forest land owners and urban wood waste firms (demolition companies) in the U.S. that could potentially be used as service and product providers to the emerging woody biomass industry. The application also provides an estimate of amount of potential woody biomass for every county in the United States. Forest bioenergy developers, economic development agencies, conservationist and community development groups can use CBAT to identify residual forestry/wood feedstock supply and local forest assets. This is a first step in determining the feasibility of a project using forest materials as a feedstock. Kilwa Biomass’s goal is to expand the use of woody biomass in energy and biochemical production to increase rural economic growth.

Currently, the growth of local rural woody biomass markets is driven by demand for the lowest cost energy which is driven by the cost of oil. Higher oil prices bridge the concerns that residential, small business and institutional customers have in using wood as a fuel source and raise the demand for wood burning stoves, boilers and CHP systems. It is Kilwa Biomass’s opinion that the industry can achieve faster more steady growth by identifying and growing the available knowledgebase about the biomass supply chain infrastructure currently in place. Knowing the location of feedstock and having the capacity to sustainably harvest and transport these materials to meet customers’ demand are essential to the development of the forestry biomass feedstock industry. In that respect Kilwa Biomass developed the Community Biomass Analytic Tool. Contact Kilwa Biomass at (412) 242-0518 for more information or go to http://www.kilwabiomass.com and try CBAT.
