Myrtle Beach, SC, February 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- NGA Tour's Fearsome Foursome Returns to Action

Over 70 NGA Tour alums in AT&T Pebble Beach

A year ago today, Ted Potter Jr. was cruising to his second consecutive win on the Bridgestone Winter Series. And while it was a quite an accomplishment, the “Wizard” was just getting started.

Potter added two NGA Tour Pro Series wins and a pair of Nationwide Tour wins in 2011, securing his 2012 PGA Tour status. Although he has yet to earn a breakout win on the top tour, the two-time NGA Player of the Year has turned some heads in his first four starts on the PGA Tour, making the cut three times and sitting 63rd on the money list.

Potter, whose best showing on the PGA Tour is T13, will look to finish the “West Coast Swing” strong as he competes in this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, Calif. Joining Potter, who is fifth in the rookie standings, in the field are over 70 NGA Tour alumni, including four 2011 NGA members.

The other part of the Fearsome Foursome, 2011 NGA members Billy Hurley III, Will Claxton and Russell Knox, are also playing in the event as well as fellow 2011 NGA member Sam Saunders, the grandson of Arnold Palmer.

Claxton, who earned his card through PGA Tour Q-School, started the season with a T23 in the Sony Open in Hawaii, but the longtime NGA Tour member narrowly missed the cut in the Farmers Insurance Open, shooting even-par 144 and failing to advance to the weekend by two strokes. However, Claxton is 10th in the rookie standings heading into his third start on the PGA Tour this season and ranks 11th on the Tour in scrambling, best among the rookie class.

Hurley, who finished inside “The 25” on the Nationwide Tour in 2011 to earn his PGA Tour status, will also be looking to make his second cut of the season. Hurley, a former NGA Tour winner, opened the season with a T71 in the Sony Open, but the Naval Academy alumnus missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. Hurley is 17th in the rookie standings.

Russell Knox, a two-time NGA Tour winner, has gone 0-for-3 in cuts made to start his rookie season, but the Scottish-born golfer has played well. Of his seven rounds, Knox has shot par or better six times and sits 12th on Tour in Strokes Gained-Putting, best among rookies. Knox is 24th in the rookie standings.

Saunders, a 2012 Nationwide Tour member, is making his second start of the season on a sponsor’s exemption. In his only PGA event of the year, the former Clemson University golfer narrowly missed the cut in the Humana Challenge.

Through five events on the PGA Tour, NGA Tour alums have one win, nine top-5s and 21 top-10s. In a little over a year, former NGA Tour players have racked up 16 wins on the PGA Tour, far more than any development tour in the country.

The NGA Pro Golf Tour is the No. 3 Men’s Professional Golf Tour in the United States after the PGA and Nationwide Tours and is the No. 1 recommended developmental tour by more PGA and Nationwide Tour Professionals.

The NGA has helped hundreds of professionals acquire their PGA, Euro, Nationwide, and Champions Tour cards. In fact, NGA alumni have won an incredible Fourteen (14) “Major” Championships.

NGA Alumni include: 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley; 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year and 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk; 2009 British Open Champion Stewart Cink; 2009 US Open Champion Lucas Glover; 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson; 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel; 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis; two-time US Open Champion Lee Janzen; British Open and PGA Champion John Daly; British Open Champion Tom Lehman; PGA Champion David Toms;and 2003 Tour Championship Winner Chad Campbell to name a few.

At this year’s PGA Tour Qualifying School, 15 of the 29 players earning full exempt status on the PGA Tour and 35 of the 52 earning full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour were past NGA Professionals. Another 16 NGA Professionals advanced to the PGA Tour for 2012 by finishing inside the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list, including 2011 NGA members Ted Potter Jr., Russell Knox and Billy Hurley III.

The NGA Pro Golf Tour, established in 1988, predates the Nationwide Tour as the longest running developmental tour in golf. For more information on the NGA or the NGA Pro Golf Tour, please visit our website at www.NGATOUR.com or contact our Tour Office at (800) 992-8748.
