From Grocery to Glam: Crochet Artisan Brings Eco-Friendly Accessory Line to the GBK Academy Awards Gift Lounge

Northern Virginia Crochet Artisan Mompreneur to have eco-friendly upcycled product at the Oscars Gift Lounge. Product featured shows how plastic bags can be repurposed into amazing accessories.

Stafford, VA, February 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- While much of the nation is debating plastic bag bans, one woman has transformed the eco-blight into fashionable upcycled accessories that have been embraced by Hollywood celebrities.

Tina Dean Designs (“TDD”) is an upscale eco accessories company specializing in upcycling/repurposing plastic bags and VHS tape into beautiful, useful accessories that are eco-friendly, easily cared for and fashionably fabulous. Based outside of Washington, DC in Stafford, Virginia, TDD is owned by Tina Dean Allen. No one will guess that these stylish accessories were once grocery bags. Plastic bags are prepared into plarn (plastic yarn) and hand crocheted into contemporary designs for every woman. A large TDD tote takes a minimum of 100 bags out of our landfills and waterways.

“It’s a wonderful experience to share with the world that plastic can be ‘haute’. My products are not only recyclable, but will likely outlast the user,” says Allen.

A newly designed tote purse will make its debut as TDD’s display piece – represented by The Artisan Group - at the GBK Academy Awards Gift Lounge February 24-25 at The W Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. All attending celebrities will receive a Petite Pocket Purse as an example of how eco-chic upcycled plastic can be.

TDD was well-received at the GBK Emmy Awards Gift Lounge in September; Nia Peeples, Kathryn Joosten and Catherine O’Hara posed with the eco-purse on display.

In addition to purses and totes, TDD creates kitchen and bath baskets. "My baskets are also great accessories as they are a stylish and conscientious way to organize; and wash like a dream. In that sense, my designs are not limited to the women of the house but are also a wonderful gift for any 'go-green' member of the family,” Allen says.
