Social Event "Ride Your Bike to the Forest" Launched

Are you a keen cyclist who lives in or near Kharkov? Internet marketing company Promodo would like your help to design a cycle route through the Ukraine’s largest park.

Kharkov, Ukraine, June 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Situated in the north of Kharkov, the huge, wooded area called Forest Park is well-known to locals as a tranquil retreat from the hectic pace of city life. Officially opened in 1916, Forest Park is the largest park in the Ukraine and has a number of facilities including skiing lodges and sports schools. It is also criss-crossed with trails and paths, but it’s easy to get lost on these unless you know the Park well. Furthermore, the city authorities don’t have a large enough budget to maintain the paths so they are becoming overgrown and harder to use, despite the efforts of local volunteers to keep them clear and remove the litter that builds up.

With sponsorship from the Ukraine’s largest online store Rozetka.ua, Kharkov-based Internet marketing company Promodo has stepped in by setting up a project called “Ride Your Bike to the Forest”, to create a cycle route through the Park. Local residents are invited to visit a specially-created site (http://rulivles.com.ua/), design a route, and then use social networking to share their route and encourage friends/family members to vote. Over 120 routes have already been designed so if you don’t want to design a route yourself, you can simply cast a vote for one of these. You can also follow the project’s progress on Facebook, Twitter or Vkontakte.

The project has been set up in consultation with the city authorities and cycling pressure groups. It will not involve cutting down trees or laying asphalt - its goal is simply to ensure that anyone can safely ride a bike or jog in the Park.

Head of Promodo’s social media marketing department Evgeniy Safonov says: “We are delighted to play a key role in this project, and to be able to use our skills in web design and social media marketing to promote and organize a much-needed initiative that will benefit the people of Kharkov, and also tourists from the Ukraine and beyond. We hope that our project will foster an interest in healthy living and active recreation, and look forward to doing more work of this kind in the future.”

Voting has been open since the last week in May and will remain so until Sunday July 1st. The winning cycle route will be built over the subsequent month, with a tentative opening date in late July.
