Soap Opera Star to Make Special Appearance at FAAN Walk for Food Allergy: the Jersey Actor Comes Home to Help His Community

Long Branch, NJ, August 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Actor Brian Gaskill, known for his roles on All My Children, Port Charles, Guiding Light, As the World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful and Models, Inc. and currently starring in the summer spinoff to the Emmy-nominated web-series "The Bay," titled "Darkside of the Bay," will be making a very special appearance at the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure in Long Branch on Saturday, September 8th.

Born in Hawaii and raised on the Jersey Shore, Gaskill spent the summer in Monmouth County, working as education director and summer theater camp instructor for Hazlet-based Garden State Players theater group. An episode of the Emmy-nominated series “Driving Jersey” on NJTV will focus on Brian and his summer spent back home on the Jersey Shore.

"I was asked to be a part of the Walk and of course agreed because I want to give back. To get by in this world we find ourselves taking a lot, so when someone offers you a chance to give back, you do it," Gaskill said. "Although I have not had many dealing with food allergies, I was shocked to hear how prevalent they are, especially here in Jersey. I recently taught a young girl here who has food allergies. It affects her life in such a dramatic way, always on guard, being careful, protecting herself, not anywhere near as free as a little girl should be. It seems debilitating to her life, so I want to help and I want to learn more about it.”

Every three minutes, a food-allergic reaction sends an American to the ER, while an emergency room visit for food-related anaphylaxis occurs every six minutes. Children living in urban centers, such as New Jersey, have a much higher prevalence of food allergies than those living in rural areas, according to a new study, which is the first to map children’s food allergies by geographical location in the United States. New Jersey is one of eight states with the highest overall prevalence of food allergies.

The Walk begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Great Lawn, north of Pier Village, with check-in at 9:00 a.m. Following the Walk, New Jersey rocker Ray Andersen, who has played with Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Matchbox 20, and Meat Loaf, and who is now known to thousands of kids as the children’s singer/songwriter mr. RAY, will be headlining a free concert following the Walk. The Academy of Music and Drama's student band, the Purple Keys will also be performing a set of music. This Fair Haven school, celebrating its ten year anniversary this year, “is happy to participate for this terrific cause.”

Post-walk activities also include appearances by Star Wars costumed characters and the Lakewood BlueClaws mascot, Buster. Kids will also enjoy a bounce house, face painting, tattoos, hair accessories, arts and crafts, and other exciting games and activities. 94. 3 the Point and NJ 101.5 will be present at the event.

Townsquare Media, Lester Glenn Auto, the Lakewood BlueClaws, American Bounce Factory, and Winks Hair and Lash Studio are sponsors for the FAAN Walk of Long Branch.
