Aertv and Today FM have partnered to put young Irish music at the heart of the new digital music market. Back to Basics is a free “one-stop-shop” to discover, share and promote new Irish music at home and abroad.

The Back to Basics digital platform is designed to give a voice to the unique music talent that is developing in post Celtic Tiger Ireland. Intuitive sharing functions combined with social media integration will make finding new Irish music and promoting the bands simpler than ever. At launch, the combined reach of the music acts is already greater than 12 million.

A new band and a new video will be available on Back to Basics every week between now and 2013. Original bands on the Back to Basics platform for launch include: Eric McGrath, Orla Gartland, Ruairí DeLeastar, Bairbre Munnis, Delorentos, Radio Room, Hudson Taylor, Slow Skies, Bouts, The Rusty Fixtures, Pearse McGloughlin and Little Xs for Eyes.

The music industry has undergone the most disruptive phase in its history and all indications are that digital distribution will be the dominant force in years to come. The global digital music market is expected to rise by 17.8% this year to €6.2 billion. In the USA, digital sales are expected to exceed physical sales for the first time in 2012. Digital sales in Ireland and the rest of the world are expected to overtake physical sales in 2015. (According to Strategy Analytics, 2012)

Commenting on the launch, Director of Aertv Philippe Brodeur said, “A year ago we launched Ireland’s first TV music channel and now we are going one step further with Back to Basics. By putting a spotlight on new Irish music we hope to give a new generation of musicians a voice that is distinct, new and reflects the times we live in. There is so much talent in this country – now is the time to let it be heard both at home and abroad.”

Bands performing at the launch included Hudson Taylor, Orla Gartland, The Rusty Fixtures, Eric McGrath, Ruairí DeLeastar and Bairbre Munnis.
