TestCountry Survey Shows Prescription Drugs & Synthetic Drugs as the Most Dangerous Teenage Drugs after Meth

Prescription drugs and synthetic drugs are two of the widely abused drug classes among teenagers today. Government statistics have shown that a growing number of youth using prescription drugs are easily gaining to prescription meds from friends and in their own households. Similarly, synthetic drug users escalate because there are still several headshops and convenience stores that sold products containing synthetic cannabinoids.

San Diego, CA, October 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Meth and crack top the list of the perceived most dangerous drugs affecting young American people today, according to a survey conducted by TestCountry, one of the world's leading supplier of drug testing supplies and services.

Out of 1,021 respondents to the question; "Which substance is the most dangerous for our kids in today's society?", 31.5% chose methamphetamine/crack as the most dangerous drugs facing America's youth while just over 26% chose prescription drugs/painkillers.

Another 15.5% chose synthetic drugs like K2 and Spice as the most dangerous drugs while 15.3% chose Heroin/Cocaine and other drugs and just over 11% chose marijuana.

The urban/rural/suburban split was apparent between meth/crack and prescription drugs. Thirty-five percent of respondents who said meth/crack were the most dangerous drugs identified themselves as rural residents with another 34% saying they are suburban residents and a further 30% saying they're urban residents.

While among those who chose prescription drugs/painkillers as the main threat to America's youth, 29% identified themselves as suburban dwellers, 24% as rural dwellers and 24% as urban dwellers.

Synthetic drugs appear to be more of a threat in the US Northeast, as 22% of the respondents that chose synthetic drugs as the most dangerous drugs for American youth identified themselves as coming from the US Northeast. The next closest region, with 17% of respondents, who chose synthetic drugs as the most dangerous was the US Midwest.

Among people who chose meth/crack as the most dangerous drug, all four regions, which also included the US West and the US South, were split almost evenly.

Most of the people who chose prescription drugs/painkillers as the most dangerous drugs came from the US West while the US Midwest held the majority for choosing heroin/cocaine as the most dangerous drugs and the US South held the majority among those who chose marijuana as the most dangerous drug.

Women were more likely to choose meth/crack as the most dangerous drugs, as well as prescription drugs/painkillers while men were more likely to choose synthetic drugs, heroin/cocaine and other drugs and marijuana as the most dangerous drugs for youth today.

People who earned between $100,000 - $149,000 were most likely to choose meth/crack as the most dangerous drugs, while people who earned $50,000 - $74,000 were most likely to choose prescription drugs/painkillers.

Respondents who earned $150,000 and up were most likely to choose synthetic drugs as the most dangerous while low income earners -- $0 - $24,999 -- were most likely to choose heroin/cocaine and other drugs as the most dangerous.

Respondents who chose marijuana as the top most dangerous drug mostly came from the $75,000 - $99,999 earning category.
