PIH Health Announces New Board of Directors Officers

Whittier, CA, October 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- PIH Health announced its Fiscal Year 2012-13 Board of Directors on Monday, October 1, 2012. The Board of Directors includes physicians and business and community leaders who meet each month to help guide the policies of PIH Health.

The corporate PIH Health Board of Directors remains the same and is as follows: Donald G. Alvarado as the Chair of the Board of Directors, Kenton Woods as Vice Chair, Rich Atwood as Secretary, and Jane Dicus as Treasurer.

The new Chair of PIH Health Physicians Board of Directors is Drew Sones. Serving with Mr. Sones are J.C. McFarland as Vice Chair, Joy Leong MD as Secretary, and Jane Dicus as Treasurer.

PIH Health Foundation Board of Directors also installed Nathan Honda MD as Chair of the Board. Serving with Dr. Honda are Robin Renek as Vice Chair, Michal Dawson as Secretary, and Hubert Perry as Treasurer.

Additional information on the Chairs is as follows:

Mr. Alvarado, PIH Health Chair of the Board, is Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Smart & Final, Inc. and its related entities. As the Chief Legal Officer, he is responsible for the company’s legal matters, government relations and litigation, and has served on various business and bar associations. Mr. Alvarado previously served on the PIH Foundation Board. He is also a board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier and serves as Regent on the Board of Regents at Loyola Marymount University. He has a juris doctorate degree from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Loyola Marymount. Mr. Alvarado is a resident of Whittier and is married with three children.

PIH Health Physicians Chair, Drew Sones, is the owner of Drew Sones Consulting and has expertise in all areas of integrated solid waste management from curbside collection to landfill operations, recycling, composting, solid waste engineering, capital budgeting and programming, project development and labor management, and government relations. He holds a bachelors degree in psychology from UCLA, where he also earned certificates from the Executive Management Program and the Public Sector Labor-Management Relations Certificate Program. In addition, Mr. Sones attended California State University, Long Beach, where he obtained a Management of Health Care Institutions certificate. His community activities include being an Ordained Elder and member at East Whittier Presbyterian Church, Past President of the Whittier Host Lions Club, Past President of Quakertowne Toastmasters Club Whittier, a mentor for the California High School Culinary Academy, and member and President of the Board of Directors of First Day Homeless Shelter in Whittier. Mr. Sones also serves on the Committee on Governance for the American Hospital Association. He and his wife Susan live in Whittier, where they have resided for 36 years and raised their two children.

Dr. Nathan Honda, PIH Health Foundation Chair, is the Medical Director of the Ruby L. Golleher Comprehensive Cancer Program at PIH Health. Dr. Honda received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and received Board Certification from the American Board of Pathology in 1988. Dr. Honda lives in Whittier with his wife and two children.
