P&O Cruises Partners with Save the Children
Sydney, Australia, December 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Australia’s leading cruise line P&O Cruises is offering its passengers the chance to make a big impact with their small change and give back to the destinations they visit through an exciting new partnership with Save the Children.

As part of the new P&O Pacific Partnership initiative, the cruise line’s passengers will donate $1 via their onboard account with the aim of raising $1 million over four years to help fund community health and education projects in Pacific Island communities.

Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, officially launched the new partnership in Sydney with a $50,000 donation on behalf of the cruise line and its passengers.

“Many of our passengers want to support the Pacific Island communities they visit and this new partnership with Save the Children provides a way for all of us to make a valuable contribution,” Ms Sherry said.

“In line with our commitment to work with the islands we visit, P&O Cruises’ Save the Children projects will focus on the Pacific, starting with a kindergarten in the northern Vanuatu province of Sanma.”

Suzanne Dvorak, CEO of Save the Children Australia, said it was great to be partnering with an Australian company which shared the same vision to help children across the Pacific.

“With the support of P&O Cruises and their passengers, children in remote communities in Vanuatu will be able to access pre-school education which is proven to be vital in setting them up for success in life,” Ms Dvorak said.

“The refurbishment of community health aid clinics and support to our village health workers will ensure that children and their communities are able to receive medical care that every child deserves.”

As well as cash donations, P&O Cruises’ passengers will be able to take a hands-on approach with an onboard knitting program Born to Knit producing blankets for newborn babies throughout the Pacific.

The P&O Pacific Partnership is part of Carnival Australia’s ongoing charity program, Carnival Cares, which also supports Lifeline Australia.
