Appointment of Judge Cynthia Norton as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge

Kansas City, MO, February 01, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Honorable William Jay Riley, Chief Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, has announced the appointment of Cynthia Norton of Lawrence, Kansas, as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Missouri, effective February 1, 2013. Judge Norton fills the vacancy created with the retirement of the Honorable Jerry W. Venters on January 31, 2013.

Judge Norton practiced bankruptcy law under her professional name, Cynthia Frogley Grimes, as a founding member of Grimes & Rebein, LC, since August 1, 1996. She has practiced bankruptcy and commercial law in federal and state courts for more than 20 years. Judge Norton is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, as well as a 2002 recipient of the Michael R. Roser Award for Excellence in bankruptcy in Missouri, and a 2012 recipient of the Gernon Award for outstanding contribution to continuing legal education in Kansas.

After graduation from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1984, Judge Norton clerked for the Honorable John E. Rees (deceased), Kansas Court of Appeals, and the Honorable James A. Pusateri (retired), U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas. Judge Norton is a member and former officer of many bankruptcy related bar associations. She also is a frequent lecturer and author on various bankruptcy and related topics.

Judge Norton and her husband, George Norton, Lt. Col., USA (retired), plan to move their residence to Missouri.
