Sloy, Dahl & Holst Client and Friend, Waldo Johnson’s 100th Birthday

Management and staff of Sloy, Dahl & Holst, TriMet employees and people from all over honored Mr. Waldo Johnson on the occasion of his 100th birthday.

Portland, OR, August 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Waldo turned 100 on July 16th, 2013. He lives alone in the home he and his wife purchased together over 54 years ago. Although legally blind due to macular degeneration, Waldo still navigates his way on public transportation to downtown Portland, Oregon at least once a month to meet with his financial advisor and friend, Jim Holst. His inspirational use of public transportation to maintain his independence was celebrated in style by the TriMet organization on the 77 Line July 12th with singing, cupcakes and a special bus banner just for him.

When he is not busy working on his own home, Waldo can be found volunteering with the local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels (Loaves and Fishes). He is also an active and much beloved member of his church.

Although hugely frugal in his own expenditures, he has been a generous supporter of the McCool Community Learning Center in his home town of McCool Junction, Nebraska. Two summers ago, Waldo and his baby-brother Ryle (96!) drove from Ryle’s home in California to Nebraska to visit the area where they grew up and see the facility in person.

Because of the persistent letter writing of Sloy, Dahl & Holst’s Account Executive Christine Cruz on his behalf, Waldo received letters of congratulations from President and Mrs. Obama, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Governor John Kitzhaber. He also received congratulations from Willard Scott and much media coverage around the TriMet celebration which culminated with a lifetime pass presentation. Happy Birthday Waldo!
