Dr. Timothy Bilash to Present Lecture on Evidence-Based Medicine – Confusing or Clarifying?

Evidence-based medicine is the use of statistical-based methodology to diagnose and treat individual patients. This method is highly-questionable as it uses population-based data and has limitations because it does not address medical and clinical components.

Solana Beach, CA, September 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Timothy Bilash, MD, is pleased to announce the September installment of his Women’s Summer Health Lecture Series titled, “Evidence Based Medicine - Where is the Evidence?” Dr. Bilash will discuss issues surrounding evidence-based medicine and will demystify the statistical methodology that is used in an effort to examine the role that population-based data and meta-analysis play in the diagnosis and treatment of individual patients.

The Solana Beach physician explained, “Ignoring the limitations of statistics and applying such conclusions without understanding the need for a chain of evidence leads to poor outcomes in medicine, particularly when deciding harm versus benefit. Statistical, Medical and Clinical significance are all necessary components which demand a great deal of training and motivation. Bias and information conflicts need to be recognized and reconciled." Dr. Bilash will cite particular studies that illustrate these difficulties.

The lectures take place on Saturday, September 7th at 9 a.m. and repeat the following Tuesday, September 10th at 7 p.m. Both lectures will be held at Dr. Bilash’s office at 765 Academy Drive, Solana Beach, CA 92075. These informative discussions are designed for both the public and medical professionals to provide new ways of thinking about what have often has been taken as medical fact. Medicine is both art and science.

Dr. Bilash’s Lecture Series will continue through December with four subsequent talks to be presented at the Del Mar Public Library:

- Sunday, September 8 at 2:00 pm: “Influenza and the Flu Vaccine”

- Sunday, October 27th at 2:00 pm: “Influenza Controversies”
