Governors Island Art Fair 2013: "balance between" by Lisa Perez, Presented by Yellow Peril Gallery

"balance between" by Lisa Perez features new mixed media sculptural works that “embrace a tension between gestural expression and minimalism” by using ambient and artificial light to cast shadows and add dimension to the subtle works on paper and wood

New York, NY, September 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to present “balance between,” a special exhibition featuring recent work from Providence artist Lisa Perez in Building 4A at Nolan Park during the 6th Annual Governors Island Art Fair 2013.

Perez will be presenting new mixed media sculptural works that “embrace a tension between gestural expression and minimalism” by using ambient and artificial light to cast shadows and add dimension to the subtle works on paper and wood.

Working with various materials and methods, Perez’s art embraces an ambiguity that confronts the defined boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation.

Her abstractions evolve from a perspective that recognizes our limited attention spans in a hyper-speed culture, where much slips into the margins of our everyday experience.

The work beckons a slowing down, a nod to the appreciation of paying attention. With this focus there is the possibility of a heightened awareness of the elasticity of time and a recognition of the power in the seemingly mundane.

The 6th Annual Governors Island Art Fair is Yellow Peril Gallery’s art fair debut. Other artists affiliated with Yellow Peril exhibiting solo presentations at GIAF include Raquel Paiewonsky, Rodrigo Nava and Kathryn Parker Almanas. The Providence-based contemporary art gallery will present as one of 15 Breeder Program galleries at SCOPE Miami Beach in December 2013.
