More Than 480,000 Pounds of Pet Food Shipped to Shelters in July and August

Seattle, WA, September 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- From mid-July through late August, Rescue Bank® shipped more than 480,864 pounds of pet food (489 pallets) to rescue groups and shelters in Tennessee, Nevada, Georgia, California, Missouri, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, South Carolina, New York, and Texas.

These food donations were made possible by Mars Petcare US, Inc., Nutro Company, and Royal Canin USA, and GreaterGood’s The Animal Rescue Site (www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com).

For each shipment, the pet food was sent to a central distribution point organized by Rescue Bank where staff or volunteers from local rescue groups and shelters could easily pick it up. Organizations can sign up to receive food aid at the Rescue Bank website: rescuebank.org.

Among the groups helping to distribute these donations were: Ozark Haven Rescue, MO; Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS NY); Rainbow's Edge Animal Refuge, SC; Crème de la Crème Animal Foundation, IL; Weimaraner Rescue of the South, TN; Animal Resource Foundation, IA; AlterPet, OH; Coalition for Animal Rescue & Education (CARE), MO; Pets are Wonderful Support (PAWS LA); Pets are Loving Support (PALS Atlanta); SPCA of Northern Nevada; and For the Love of Dogs, TN. Each organization typically sees a dozen or more smaller groups come out for a “food day” of loading pick-ups, station wagons, and other transport for their shelters and rescue groups.

“Our distribution from Rescue Bank has saved numerous rescues from going bankrupt because rescues survive on donations and contributions,” said a representative from Coalition for Animal Rescue and Education (CARE) in St. Louis, MO. “When we lose a rescue, that means hundreds of animals will not be fed, saved, and miss a second chance at life. Saving homeless animals starts with food.”

Grants from GreaterGood.org, funded through The Animal Rescue Site’s “Click To Give” and Gifts That Give More program, enable Rescue Bank to ship the donated food from ars Petcare US, Inc., Nutro Company, and Royal Canin USA to Rescue Bank's distribution partners.

Free Clicks Helping Program Go Nationwide
Since 2011, Rescue Bank has been a “click” charitable partner of The Animal Rescue Site. Tens of thousands of people visit The Animal Rescue Site daily to click the purple button and make a free donation to feed animals (clicks are paid for by sponsoring advertisers). These donations have enabled Rescue Bank to expand its delivery network across the United States.

Funding from The Animal Rescue Site and other GreaterGood websites is distributed by the independent 501(c)3 GreaterGood.org. The GreaterGood websites have contributed nearly $30 million to animal rescue and humanitarian aid since 1999.
