)-- While Alzheimer’s is not normal aging, age is the greatest risk factor for the disease. There is a growing prevalence of cognitive decline with approximately 1 in 8 Americans reporting confusion or memory loss happening more often or getting worse in the previous 12 months. In addition, 43.5 million of adult family caregivers care for someone 50+ years of age and 14.9 million care for someone who has Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.
The seminar will include presentation and discussion of the effects of Alzheimer’s (AD) on the brain, the symptoms of AD with the corresponding Dementia Assessment Tool, current treatments and research, activities for those with AD, effects of disease on caregivers, suggestions for caregivers stress, tips for the holidays, and many other pertinent topics. Some of the topics may be presented in handouts which will accompany the presentation.
Jackie has extensive experience in this field. She has more than 43 years serving the aging in home health care, skilled and assisted living facilities and hospital settings. Jackie is a sought after advocate for the elderly. She has extensive knowledge of the aging process and the medical condition and medications of the elderly, years of clinical experience in nursing and is one of Texas’ longest practicing care managers. She is the owner of her own business, Hill Country Care Providers, an in-home personal care attendant service.
