Reverend James Cleveland Featured in the Second Episode of the "Christian Minstrel Pioneers"
Toronto, Canada, October 05, 2013 --(PR.com
)-- The history of Reverend James Cleveland, the “King of Gospel”, is explored in this episode of the HOB gospel artists history program. The Christian Minstrel Pioneers program continues to tell the inspiring stories of legendary gospel artists and groups, examining moments in their past that led to the shaping of gospel music today. This episode of the program delves into the life of Reverend James Cleveland, a man who had a profound influence on both the gospel and secular music world. From his beginnings at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, working under Thomas A. Dorsey, to his work with other groups, like The Caravans, and mentorship with such future legends as Aretha Franklin, Cleveland’s presence in the gospel music world is examined right up until his death in 1991. His contribution to the gospel music world was not limited to his gravelly singing only: James Cleveland also worked as an arranger, composer, pianist and Minister of Music at several churches throughout his lifetime.
