William Peace University Names Alethea J. Byrd, ATC, Assistant Athletic Trainer

)-- William Peace University, a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that Alethea J. Byrd, a certified athletic trainer, has been named assistant athletic trainer. In her position, Byrd will provide support for university athletes to ensure that they are competing safely and avoiding potential injuries. She will help athletes warm up and stretch properly, provide prophylactic taping and bracing for athletes with sustained injuries, and serve as first responder in the case of an emergency. In addition, Byrd will assist with the rehabilitative process of injured athletes through use of therapeutic exercise and modalities, such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation.
A 2006 graduate of Miller-Motte Technical College in Cary, N.C., as a certified massage therapist, Byrd earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a concentration in exercise sports science from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham. While studying at NCCU, she worked with Duke University’s baseball team, Jordan High School’s football and cheerleading teams, and various NCCU sports teams as an athletic training student. Additionally, Byrd has volunteered as a first responder at an NFL-sponsored youth football camp in Durham and has presented health and wellness workshops for faculty and staff at S.W. Snowden Elementary School in Aurora, N.C. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity. A native of New Jersey, Byrd resides in Raleigh.
