AIDS Research Alliance Announces “Lunch with LeVar Burton” Winner

AIDS Research Alliance Announces “Lunch with LeVar Burton” Winner
Los Angeles, CA, June 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- AIDS Research Alliance is pleased to announce its winner of the “Lunch with LeVar” Giveaway. Athena Tang, a music teacher in the Fremont Unified School District in Northern California, will be having lunch with LeVar Burton at one of his favorite L.A. hotspots later this summer.

The “Lunch with LeVar” Giveaway, which was posted on numerous blogs, Facebook pages, and websites, received over 13 million impressions.

What was the giveaway’s mission? To encourage AIDS Research Alliance’s supporters and LeVar Burton enthusiasts to support HIV cure research every time they shop online. Powered by We-Care.com, the AIDS Research Alliance’s Shop & Support application is free and easy to use. It makes it possible for anyone to support ARA by shopping at any of 2,500 participating online retailers, including Bloomingdales, Best Buy, Target, and Travelocity.

Upon receiving the news of the winner, LeVar quipped, “I’m incredibly excited and can’t wait to meet Ms. Tang. This is the first lunch I will have ever done with a fan…I hope she doesn’t bite.”

Athena, a longtime fan of LeVar Burton’s, as well as one of his Reading Rainbow Kickstarter backers, enthused, “LeVar Burton has been a major influence in my life. There is something about LeVar that lets you know that he cares about people – including his audience and his fans. Meeting LeVar will be like meeting my favorite super hero. That’s how big this is to me.”

AIDS Research Alliance helped to make HIV/AIDS treatable, but 8,000 people still die of AIDS every day, while millions more with HIV may lose a third of their life spans. As an independent research organization, AIDS Research Alliance has moved the science forward, contributing to the approval of half of today’s HIV/AIDS treatments. Now, AIDS Research Alliance is dedicated to finding a cure.

AIDS Research Alliance is a nonprofit, medical research organization dedicated to finding a cure for AIDS. Since 1989, AIDS Research Alliance has conducted clinical trials leading to the approval of half of today’s HIV/AIDS treatments. Its current research targeting latent HIV reservoirs, including the development of prostratin, will bring the world closer to a cure. AIDS Research Alliance is also at the forefront of infection prevention as a member of the federal HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Free from political or profit motives, AIDS Research Alliance offers clinical trial volunteers access to the next generation of HIV/AIDS treatments and vaccines at its world-class clinic in downtown Los Angeles, and in this way, pursues all pathways to the worldwide eradication of HIV/AIDS.
