NC Theatre Receives $25,000 Grant from the John William Pope Foundation

Grant Supports Local Theatre’s Efforts to Bring Top-Rated Productions to Triangle Community

Raleigh, NC, December 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- NC Theatre, the Triangle’s largest nonprofit professional theatre, has received a $25,000 grant from the John William Pope Foundation, one of the Tar Heel State’s top philanthropies. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2014, NC Theatre continues to preserve the unique American art form of musical theatre and providing community access to the arts.

The Pope Foundation, which has supported NC Theatre for decades, has invested $1.9 million in the North Carolina arts community during the last 25 years. Each organization receiving a grant must reflect four key principles that guide the Pope Foundation:

- Art eventually defines and reflects culture. Because we value a free and civil society, we want art to reflect a free and civil society.
- Supporting the arts in our local community is essential to growing and fostering that community.
- Respecting donor intent is central to the Foundation’s support for the arts.
- State, local, and federal governments allocate over $1 billion annually to the arts. The Foundation believes that private, not public, entities should be the principal method for funding creative expression.

Support from the community and various businesses and nonprofit organizations ensure that NC Theatre can continue to educate and entertain a diverse audience through theatre arts.

“With the help of the Pope Foundation and countless others in our community, we’re thrilled to continue offering wonderful performances throughout the year,” said Lisa Grele Barrie, president and CEO of NC Theatre.

“North Carolina is fortunate to have a local theatre outlet that brings so many top-rated Broadway shows to Raleigh and conducts high caliber local performances,” said Dave Riggs, executive vice president of the Pope Foundation.
