Cool Science to Host Mini Fruitcake Toss at Manitou Art Center
The 2014 event uses tiny fruitcakes to inspire future Fruitcake Flinging Engineers.
Colorado Springs, CO, January 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Cool Science announced today that it will be hosting the 2014 Mini Fruitcake Toss in Manitou Springs on Saturday, January 11, 2014. This decision was made even though the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce cancelled their Great Fruitcake Toss for this year.
This event will have no large catapults, pneumatic guns or cannons. Instead, Cool Science is featuring its unique mix of fun and science in its Mini Fruitcake Toss dedicated to kids. The Mini Fruitcake Toss offers a fun workshop to help kids build their own catapult and then gives them a chance to launch tiny fruitcakes and compete for prizes. Advance registration is requested at MiniFruitCakeToss.com to ensure enough catapult kits and tiny fruitcakes are available.
“We’re hoping to inspire the next generation of Fruitcake Flinger Engineers with our event and we’re hoping some veteran fruitcake toss participants will stop in to help us further inspire the kids,” reported Marc Straub, Executive Director of Cool Science. “Even though the Great Fruitcake Toss was cancelled for this year, I’m sure it will be back and run for many years to come. Our kids today will not only participate in it in the future, but they’ll find new and exciting ways to propel fruitcakes if we engage them at events like this.”
Cool Science has offered their free catapult workshop the same weekend as the Great Fruitcake Toss for the last five years. The usual payload for the catapult has been marshmallows, but this year to keep fruitcakes flying in Manitou Springs, the catapult design has been tweaked to accommodate a special tiny fruitcake.
Note: This event is not the Manitou Springs Great Fruitcake Toss, which would have celebrated its 19th anniversary this year. Since 1996, the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Great Fruitcake Toss, where fruitcakes are thrown, hurled, catapulted and cannoned into the air using a range of inventive devices. The event was cancelled for 2014.
