Washington, DC, January 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Women who can’t wait to show off their newest little black dress or pair of Manolo Blahniks will find a wider audience to share their fashion sense with when they become members of Girls United. The Internet’s newest social platform app is dedicated to empowering women and bringing them together by promoting something they all have in common: a flair for fashion.

“Girls United is devoted to a vision of a platform where women express and share their sense of style in a fun uplifting community,” says founder Elle Benét.

Benét’s desire to develop a mobile app for the Girls United platform is an extension of her quest to inspire other women with her own story. In her book “They Made Me Do It,” she chronicles her youth as a girl growing up in a religious cult that suppressed her self-expression and even dictated what she could wear.

She broke free from those bonds to become an author and advocate for women in her adult years. Having already tested the Girls United platform as a website, she is ready to take it to the next level with a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com that launches today and continues through March 21, 2014.

The Girls United app has the potential of becoming the Facebook for fashionistas, connecting women around the world interested in sharing their latest look. It also has several other benefits that could expand a member’s wardrobe:

- When members see an ensemble they like, they can award Hot Outfit Two Thumbs-up, or HOTT Points, that reveal information about the articles of clothing, such as the brand and who the retailer is.

- Women can tailor the app to their age or fashion style, customizing the platform, which also has a “Follow Me” feature to help build a network of fashionistas.

- Members share their style within the Girl United community, but can expand their reach through links across other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Pinterest, with the potential of earning additional HOTT Points.

- Basic Girls United membership is free, but an In-App monthly subscription for $1.99 allows members to use their accumulated HOTT Points in the GU Mall to purchase a variety of merchandise, including makeup, purses and clothing, and become eligible for monthly drawings.

Fashion-forward networkers can learn more about the Girls United social platform and how to be part of Elle Benét’s vision to unite women at Indiegogo.com (http://igg.me/at/GirlsUnited). Various donor levels include special perks, including a copy of Benét’s book, “They Made Me Do It.,” a fascinating account of life in a religious cult and one woman’s success at overcoming the oppressive experience.
