Hip Hop Dancers Stand Out

Urban Fire Dance Studio's Company Team placed Third in the Annual Sunday's Best Praise Dance Competition, held on Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Ft. Pierce, FL, January 28, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The event, held at the Halvert Fenn Center in Ft. Pierce, FL, hosted 15 of the top mime and praise dance teams in the Southeastern United States. These finalists were chosen among 150 entries to compete for top cash prizes.

In a field of primarily mime artists and praise dance teams, hip hop teams like Urban Fire of Ft. Pierce and Solos Crew of Orlando went against expectations of what praise dance looked like. "We really didn't expect to win anything tonight," said Daniel Brydebell, one of Urban Fire's teachers and performers. "With this being a praise dance event, we thought all of the winners would be performing praise dances or mimes. We are very grateful that our hip hop worship piece was so well received and won good marks from the judges."

There were definitely audience favorites during the evening's performance, and Urban Fire was one of them. Many in the audience had never seen a Lyrical/Hip Hop-style dance before, and the interpretation was fresh and very well executed by the team of seven dancers. Although this style, also known as Lyri-Hop, is not a regular style taught in their other classes, the more advanced Hip Hop 3 class puts together two of these types of pieces each year.

Teams from all over Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina brought their best to the night's performance. Second Place winner, Warriors of Worship, was a group of energetic children, ages 10 - 12, from Houston, TX. First Place was awarded to Generation 7 Mime, a single performer from Greenville, NC.
