William Peace University Hosts Gov. Pat McCrory and Cooperating Raleigh Colleges to Discuss Higher Education and Its Economic Impact on Wake County

NC Governor Joins Education Leaders at Four-Year Baccalaureate to Reveal Findings of Higher Education Economic Impact Study by CRC

Raleigh, NC, March 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, welcomed the 74th Governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, to its campus Wednesday, March 26, 2014, to reveal and discuss the findings of a recent study conducted by Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC) on the 2013 economic impact on Wake County by the six campuses that comprise the CRC: Meredith College, North Carolina State University, Saint Augustine’s University, Shaw University, Wake Tech Community College, and William Peace University.

The report found that the six CRC campuses contributed an estimated $8 billion to the local economy, accounting for 205,413 jobs for faculty, staff, students and alumni. The totals represent 24 percent of all wage and salary income in the local economy and 43 percent of all Wake County jobs in 2013. For a detailed look at the report, visit: http://crcraleighcolleges.org/serving/economic_impact/.

McCrory, who graduated from Catawba College, a small, private university located north of Charlotte, NC, discussed the need for academic institutions to work together and praised the efforts of CRC and its working relationship in bringing resources and a well-rounded curriculum to its various student audiences.

"We're all a part of the same team," McCrory stressed to an audience of CRC members, education leaders from across the area, and other city, state and county officials. "We're a part of one education process. The more we share, the more we work as a team, and find our own unique, individual niches; when we can't meet that niche, we'll go to our neighboring school and fill it. The number one customer is the student."

"We were thrilled to have the Governor here on our campus," said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. "Having graduated from a similar institution to WPU, Gov. McCrory believes in the power and impact of higher education, from small to big schools. We are thankful that he took the time out of his busy schedule to be here."
