Mt. Aery Baptist Church Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Service and Leadership by Dr. Anthony L. Bennett

Bridgeport, CT, April 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Mt. Aery Baptist Church (Bridgeport, CT) announced today a weeklong celebration of Dr. Anthony L. Bennett’s twentieth anniversary of leadership and service of as the pastor of one of Bridgeport’s most influential church communities.

For over two decades Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Bennett has been the Pastor of Mt. Aery Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. His personal commitment to education, health advocacy and interfaith collaborations have improved countless lives and been recognized at the local, state and national level. Dr. Bennett’s leadership has filled a significant void in the greater Bridgeport Community through new ministries designed for teenagers; those recovering from dependencies; youth education and literacy.

He is also the inspiration for Mt. Aery’s MAAFA Influence, now in its tenth year, an extraordinary African-American history and performing arts program that has touched over 12,000 participants, including Bridgeport public and parochial school students. Rev Bennett’s steadfast support of community healthcare include: Mt. Aery’s Aids Ministry, a collaboration with the National Association of Heart Disease, the opening of a Community Health Clinic on church property and the first Naturopathic Clinic in the Greater Bridgeport community.

Rev. Bennett’s community service leadership includes Co-Chair of CONECT (Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut) and Board memberships in service organizations across the state. Dr. Bennett also joined a select group of CONECT ministers in a February visit to Germany to begin a dialogue with the global gun manufacturers on strategies to combat the gun violence epidemic facing all communities worldwide.

Dr. Bennett’s 20th Anniversary Celebration includes the following special events:

- A special prayer service kicked off this special week with Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood of Mt Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, April 2 at Mt Aery Church.

- Luminaries from across the country, state and city will join the Mt Aery family for Dr. Bennett’s Gala Anniversary Celebration on Friday, April 4, at 7:00 pm at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport. Friday’s gala will include a special tribute from Rev. Troy Johnson of the Fresh Start Community Church in Houston, Texas.

- A closing celebration service with guest speaker and acclaimed orator Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Pastor Emeritus of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ on Sunday, April 6 at 7:45am and again at 11:00am.

Donna Thompson-Bennett, Dr. Bennett’s wife and an equal leader in local, state and national community service, will be honored on Saturday, April 5 at 1 pm at Mt Aery Church.
