Santa Fe, NM, May 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Asia Institute announced today that it has been named a finalist for the 2014 Innovative New Program – Study Abroad Award as determined by a committee of international education professionals known as the GoAbroad Innovations Academy.

The 2014 Innovative New Program – Study Abroad Award is presented annually by GoAbroad in recognition of innovations in international education. As the leading resource for meaningful travel, GoAbroad selects the winners in coordination with a prestigious and selective group of international educators.

The purpose of the awards is to acknowledge institutions, organizations, and individuals who are creating initiatives to move the field of international education forward, and to commend leaders in the community for their efforts to go beyond the conventional. Award recipients are announced each May during GoAbroad’s reception at the annual NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference.

Cleveland State University in collaboration with host partner the Asia Institute were nominated for their innovative program design connecting academic course content and real world learning outcomes. For the first time ever, students on a ten day international study program tracked an end-to-end supply chain. The “Follow the Smart Phone Trail” program offers students a faculty-led experience in Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen, China and Hong Kong SAR, incorporating visits to leading companies that are redefining the smart phone industry, such as Apple Retail (consumer experience), ZTE and Huawei (OEM/ODM), Knowles and TE Connectivity (component manufacturers) and including the Yangshan Deep-Water Port (import/export).

Upon receipt of the nomination, Bradley A Feuling, Chairman, the Asia Institute, stated, “This program is a truly unique experience for students, whereby they can connect classroom learning in an international setting with a product and industry they interact with each day. We are proud to have developed the first end-to-end supply chain experience for students, in collaboration with Cleveland State University. We thank the judges for their recognition and are proud of our team who was involved in executing an exceptional experience for the students involved.”

All winners will be announced at the GoAbroad Innovations Reception during the NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo. NAFSA is the largest international education event, taking place between May 25-30 at the San Diego Convention Center. The NAFSA annual conference brings together more than 8,400 professionals in the field of international education for five packed days of training workshops, educational sessions, networking opportunities, and special events.
