New Music and Arts Festival at High Noon Saloon in Madison

Performances from local women musicians, DJs, dancers, aerialists and a poet to benefit incarcerated women in the Wisconsin prison system, Sun., Jun 1.

Who: First Annual Madison Womyn's Music & Arts Festival is pleased to announce a dynamic mix of performances from Terra Incognita Aerial Dance, Mami Wata African Drum Troupe, DJ Steph Stringer, DJ Kayla Kush, Araceli Esparza, Beth Kille, Sophie Spacegypsy, Holo Mink, Seasaw, Lovemichallalynn, Irene Keenan Jr., Miranda Moon, Dana Perry, and Thistle & Thorns.

Why: To raise funds and awareness for the Demeter Foundation which advocates and educates for the humane treatment and the civil rights of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women in Wisconsin. The second objective is to celebrate and build community around local women artists & performers.

What: First Annual Madison Womyn's Music & Arts Festival is a new event organized by Thistle Pettersen of Thistle & the Thorns and Christin Light of Holo Mink (Minneapolis) to raise awareness and funds for a great cause but also to have a fun event connecting women performers with the community. The event will include door prizes, a silent auction, and women artists and artisans work on display and for sale. In addition, there will be a letter-writing table set up to start penpal relationships with women in prison in Wisconsin. There will also be a donations box for books to prisoners. Bring only soft cover new books to donate. This event is sponsored by the Madison Infoshop, Madison's chapter of the National Organization for Women and Sol Escape Healing Arts. Tickets are $10.
