Finalists Announced for the 2014 GreenBuilt Home Tour

The one-of-a-kind tour of sustainably built homes taking place in July features innovative building projects from Northbrook to Naperville and neighborhoods across Chicago.

Chicago, IL, May 15, 2014 --(PR.com)-- USGBC-Illinois is pleased to announce the names and locations of participating homes that will be featured on the 2014 GreenBuilt Home Tour scheduled for July 26 and 27.

The unique event, now in its second year, helps raise public awareness about healthy and sustainable home-building practices, and is a showcase of new products and technologies at work in real-world applications.

Each home on the GreenBuilt Home Tour features a variety of residential design ideas, building practices, mechanical systems, and building materials that represent the present and future of green-building innovations. Consumers and other tour attendees can see and evaluate green-building options in actual dwellings, as well as talk to the designers, builders and homeowners at each location.

A survey of 2013 tour attendees indicated that a majority of visitors to the homes were planning to build a home that incorporated sustainable practices, or were planning an expansion or retrofit of their current home.

Earlier this year, Illinois was recently recognized as the state with the most LEED-certified (Leadership in Environmental Design) square footage per capita. The distinction places Illinois at the forefront in the movement for sustainable building design, construction and operation.

As the organizer of the event, USGBC-Illinois requires that homes on the tour be third-party verified (or pending verification) to ensure they are built to national standards - earning certification through programs such as: ENERGY STAR for Homes, LEED for Homes, GreenStar, the National Green Building Standard, HERS rating, and Passive House. The following is the list of homes that will be featured on the 2014 GreenBuilt Home Tour:

The GreenBuilt Home Tour offers excellent sponsorship opportunities for organizations and businesses related to home-building, "sustainable living" and "green" innovation. The chapter has retained the public relations and marketing firm ArchiBusiness Marketing to advertise and promote the event. A printed guide with images, descriptions and a map of each home's location will be published and distributed to 200,000 households by the Chicago Tribune. Additional copies will be available at select retail outlets.
