Fremont Eatery Gets Design with an "Attitude"

Northern California Design Studio Helps BBQ Restaurant Establish "Fresh and Different" look.

Fremont, CA, August 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Paul Reddick sought “a place with attitude” to expand his restaurant, which had enjoyed some success at its original but small location. Reddick, a former semiconductor sales manager, scored an instant hit with his San Jose location of the Smoking Pig BBQ with its funky décor and moist, powerfully smoked brisket in 2011—and quickly earned a positive review from the Michelin Guide. Looking to expand, Reddick may have found an ideal location in Fremont, though it had one big architectural obstacle in that it had clearly been built for a restaurant chain.

Enter Spence Studio Interiors and principal Loretta Spence. Spence was able to fit Reddick’s budget, conjure up an exterior that met his fun and feisty theme and also adhere to restrictions of the Community Plan and Design Guidelines for Fremont’s Downtown District.

Spence Studio Interiors picked exterior colors based on Reddick’s business card and website. This obliterated the original colorless and routine paint job and achieved the goal of branding the Smoking Pig BBQ as an extension of Reddick’s inventive and energetic personality.

“Spence Studio Interiors immediately understood our challenge,” Reddick said. “We wanted the building to appear different but had to limit our makeover to only new paint colors. We needed colors that complemented our branding but would be accepted as appropriate under the Fremont Downtown District guidelines. She made solid recommendations that met those challenges head-on and did not require a second thought from our standpoint.”

Spence Studio Interiors successfully delivered a branded architectural version of an existing business in a new location within budget limitations and brought exterior elements into natural alignment with landscaping and color. The firm accomplished this by listening and comprehending the owner’s goals, evaluating limitations and working with existing materials.
