EPP’s Caffrey Receives Merit Award from Atlantic City Electric

Hammonton, NJ, August 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Michael Caffrey, Vice President of Operations for Emergency Preparedness Partnerships (EPP) has been presented with Atlantic City Electric’s eighth annual Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety, which is given to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated a strong and enduring commitment to the energy and restoration needs of Southern New Jersey residents. Caffrey received the award at the 2014 New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Conference.

Caffrey was recognized for his long-standing position as an industry practitioner and leader. He has been serving the utility industry and community for more than 40 years, and is considered one of the leading emergency preparedness experts in the United States. In his current role at EPP, Caffrey manages all aspects of emergency program development, regulatory reviews, storm restoration, exercises, drills, training, and security audits for utility clients across the U.S. Prior to joining EPP in 2000, Caffrey managed the emergency preparedness operations for PEPCO Holdings, the holding company for Atlantic City Electric, and coordinated restoration efforts for more than 1 million electric and gas customers.

"Words cannot describe what an incredible honor it is to receive the Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety from Atlantic City Electric," said Caffrey. "I’ve dedicated myself to helping utilities with emergency planning and restoration, so being recognized as a pioneer, expert and leader within the industry is extremely gratifying."

Aside from his organizational roles and responsibilities, Caffrey was instrumental in the formation of several groups tasked with emergency planning and restoration. For example, he is a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group (MAMA). He also founded the Delmarva Power Emergency Task Force, a multi-jurisdictional association that helps coordinate emergency restoration efforts across Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. He has also served on various boards of directors, including The National Hurricane Utility Planning Committee, the American Red Cross (Atlantic/Cumberland Chapter), the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Association, and the New Jersey Utilities Association.

Past Winners of the Merit of Excellence Award for Commitment to Public Safety include the Long Beach Island Emergency Operations Center; the Cape May County Emergency Management Communications Center; Donald Elmer, Camden County Department of Public Safety; Lt. Nick Massa, New Jersey State Police; and Edward Conover, Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management.

"ACE is a utility company that truly puts the needs of its customers first when disaster strikes, and this annual award clearly demonstrates its commitment to that goal," said Caffrey. "By recognizing individuals that excel in emergency planning and outage restoration, ACE is doing its part to promote the importance of these efforts, even when the sky is blue!"
