A £m+ pound logistics company working with some of the most valued household international brand names were facing a challenge of automating and integrating key aspects of business which involved paper based transactions. A key business process, which revolved around managing Proof of Delivery (POD) notes required a dedicated member of staff to manually - scan the PODs, extract relevant information, cross check with other back office applications and link it with multiple client back office applications by manually uploading each paper document.
This manual process of handling and managing PODs was identified as a bottleneck which was having a ripple effect on other departments and their processes by limiting their ability to exchange information in a timely manner.
Schnell undertook a detailed study of the client's business processes and came up with a bespoke solution which was a combination of automated scanning, OCR and a mobile app. The solution was first developed as a prototype and 15 days worth of paper PODs were used to process using the bespoke prototype. This demonstrated a success rate of 90%+ and Schnell were instructed to convert the prototype into a full-scale application.
Building on top of the prototype, Schnell developed bespoke software - Consignment Note Management System (CNMS). CNMS was developed and implemented within 3 months and integrated with several in-house and clients back office applications to ensure seamless flow of data in real-time. Today, every single POD is processed via CNMS and the accuracy has been increased to 95% by using QR codes.
As a result, a key business process that required a dedicated member of staff is now fully automated resulting in a saving of 200+ man days every year.
