Female Comics Band Together to Support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Houston, TX, October 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Houston’s hottest female comics join forces in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). The show entitled “Men All Pause,” a play on the word “menopause,” refers to a period in a comedienne’s life where her talent peaks and she displays hot flashes of comedic brilliance. The event, produced by Sol-Caritas, features an all-female lineup of performers who have appeared on top platforms such as HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central, BET’s ComicView, NickMom Night Out, and The Monique Show. The ensemble cast was formed to promote camaraderie among women, utilizing comedy for a serious cause. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to breast cancer charities.

Breast cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death in women with about 1 in 8 likely to be diagnosed in their lifetime, according to statistics from the American Cancer Society. NBCAM is an international campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness and raise funds for the disease. Groundbreaking research has proven a link between laughter and healing, leading cutting-edge treatment facilities to use modalities such as laughter therapy to help patients cope with conventional cancer treatments.

The “Men All Pause” mission hits home for featured comedienne Crystal Powell, a Texas native, who has performed nationwide, appearing on BET show “Lincoln Heights” and in feature film “Ball Don’t Lie” directed by Nick Cannon. Powell’s sister-in-law had a double mastectomy following a breast cancer diagnosis, and Powell recently completed her first mammogram.

“I was fearful but also empowered by the mammogram process,” she said. “Although breast cancer affects a small percentage of men, the rates for women are higher, so it’s a sisterhood. Laughter can be a powerful medicine; you have to laugh to keep from crying sometimes.”

The event aims not only to help heal but also to celebrate the strength of women to band together to overcome obstacles. The comediennes are eager to show solidarity to help defeat breast cancer one laugh at a time.

The “Men All Pause” comedy show will be held at 8 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Houston Improv, 7620 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77055. The “Men All Pause” concept launched in New York at the famed Broadway Comedy Club and generated such high acclaim it expanded to Texas and other U.S. cities. This show features comics Crystal Powell, Liz Faublas, Kiana Dancie, Kristin Lindner, Jennifer Jermany, and Brandy Adams. To purchase tickets visit www.improv.com.
