Savannah Law School Announces Inaugural Graduation Speaker

Savannah Law School (SLS) is pleased to welcome Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson of the Supreme Court of Georgia as its inaugural graduation speaker.

Savannah, GA, May 17, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Savannah Law School (SLS) will host its inaugural commencement exercises on May 22, 2015 at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson of the Supreme Court of Georgia will give the commencement address in celebration of the branch’s first graduating class.

After receiving approval from the ABA as an approved branch of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, the students and administration are eager to commemorate another historic milestone with this year’s graduating class.

Dean Malcolm L. Morris stated,

We are honored to welcome Justice Thompson as the commencement speaker for Savannah Law School’s inaugural commencement exercises. It is a great privilege to have the state’s highest ranking judicial officer join us for one of the most significant moments in the history of our young law school.

About Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson

Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson, a native Georgian and resident of Milledgeville, was appointed to the Supreme Court of Georgia by Governor Zell Miller on March 1, 1994. Prior to becoming a justice on the Supreme Court, Justice Thompson served as a superior court judge in the eight-county Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, having been appointed to that position in 1979 by Governor George Busbee. He was re-elected repeatedly by the citizens of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit and served from 1979 to 1994. He served in the capacity of Chief Judge of the Ocmulgee Circuit from 1987 to 1994.

Additional Commencement Information

The law school’s commencement exercises will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum in Savannah, Georgia. A champagne toast will follow the ceremony. There are no tickets to attend.
