Gold Star Mother to Address Veterans and Employers at Transition Seminar Graduation

Bloomington, IN, August 28, 2015 --(PR.com)-- President of Central Indiana Gold Star Mothers Janice Schauwecker will speak at the Operation: Job Ready Veterans Graduation Ceremony on Friday, August 28th, at 10:00 a.m. at 4740 Kingsway Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Mrs. Schauwecker is the mother of SSG Richard A. Blakley, a medic with the Indiana National Guard who was killed by a sniper in Al Khalidiyah, Iraq on June 6, 2006.

Operation: Job Ready Veterans is a not-for-profit organization providing job readiness training and placement for Indiana-based service members, veterans, military spouses and caregivers. Its Veteran Employment Transition Seminar is a comprehensive developmental seminar that prepares veterans to re-engage the job market. The seminar includes interest and skills assessments, ways to cope with change, advanced resume building, networking and interview preparation. Upon completion of the week-long seminar, graduates will continue to be supported as they build their professional network and secure interviews with area employers. At graduation, the candidates are introduced to employers who need top quality, well-trained men and women for their workforce.

“Veterans face a variety of challenges when searching for a civilian job. The mission of our organization is to assist the veteran in overcoming those challenges and finding meaningful employment,” said Tony Cross, Executive Director of Operation: Job Ready Veterans. This week’s seminar was dedicated to the memory of SSG Blakley.

About Mrs. Schauwecker
After the death of her son, Mrs. Schauwecker was connected with SOS (Survivors Outreach Services) with the Indiana National Guard. It was asked of her to start a support group for other Gold Star Mothers, those whose son or daughter has been killed in action while serving with the military in Central Indiana. As a result, the Central Indiana Gold Star Mothers was formed on Sept. 11, 2011. The chapter celebrates the lives of lost loved ones, supporting each other and ensuring that the ultimate sacrifice of their sons and daughters is not forgotten.

Mrs. Schauwecker and her husband Don are also Charter Members of the Indiana Blue Star Program, active with the USO and Charter Board Members of the Indy Honor Flight. The Indy Honor Flight’s mission statement is to take WWII Veterans on a one day trip to Washington DC to see their memorial. To date, they have taken over 800 veterans to DC at no cost to the veterans.
