$10,000 Grand Prize Winner Named at Second Annual - TiE Pittsburgh Start-Up Award/BMR Showcase
Pittsburgh, PA, December 09, 2015 --(PR.com)-- For those who follow the startup scene, Rorus, RistCall and Trusst Lingerie are sure to be on the radar. The three startups walked away with first, second and third places, respectively, at TiE Pittsburgh's 2nd Annual – $10,000 Start-Up Award/BMR Showcase.

"Startups are central to a healthy regional economy," says Ravi Koka, President-Elect of TiE Pittsburgh, CEO, and Chief Scientist of Osage Labs. "TiE Pittsburgh is honored to play a part in helping these startups progress and gain visibility among investors and other professionals who are vested in the success of the entrepreneurial community."

The TiE Pittsburgh event provided a stage for 10 startup finalists that were selected from an initial field of 50 applicants. Each finalist had the opportunity to pitch their businesses to a panel of cross-industry leaders that included Sunil Wadhwani, SWAT-Capital; David Passavant, PNC; Michael Keslar, BNY Mellon; and Ilana Diamond, AlphaLabGear.

Rorus Inc's ingenious and inexpensive filter system (Device for Emergency Water, or DEW) purifies water at the point of use. The startup's lightweight prototype has been well received in locations recovering from flooding and other natural disasters.

RistCall’s wireless, wearable devices replace outdated hospital call systems. The technology allows patients to classify requests and send them from anywhere, while nurses immediately receive requests and are better equipped to prioritize and quickly respond to patient needs.

Trusst Lingerie has reengineered a product design that dates back over 100 years. By removing the discomfort of underwire and the strain of shoulder straps, Trusst has introduced a patent-pending, bra support designed for support and comfort, especially for larger-busted women.

"Over the last five years, Pittsburgh's start-up ecosystem has gained momentum, due in part to the contributions of TiE Pittsburgh and other organizations that support and nurture early stage companies," explains Don Morrison, Chairman of Deal Flow for BlueTree Allied Angels. "The recent TiE pitch competition exemplifies the outstanding quality and diversity of the region's emerging companies."

In addition to the three winners, seven other startups pitched their businesses: VIT Initiative, Suitable, FocusMD, Shtrands, Skick'D, Jetpack Workflow and Steel City Optronics. All 10 companies will have the opportunity to progress to TiE Global's, 2016 International Start-Up Competition in Boston.
