Cincinnati, OH, January 20, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Journey from Suitcases to Semis

Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Cincinnati, OH is celebrating 25 years of caring for the poorest of the poor and disaster victims.

From Suitcases to Semis

Matthew 25: Ministries began as the result of a trip Founder and President Reverend Wendell Mettey made with a group of doctors and nurses to Nicaragua in 1990. Pastor Mettey’s years as an inner city social worker and pastor had done little to prepare him for what he experienced in Nicaragua during his visit. The poverty and devastation was endless. Upon leaving, Pastor Mettey made a promise to himself that he would find a way to help the people of Nicaragua. His experience in material handling enabled him to develop an efficient system to rescue and reuse food, clothing, personal care, cleaning, medical and educational supplies which were deemed no longer useful by US standards and transport them to those in desperate need.

Over the years, Matthew 25’s distribution activities have grown to include partners in Greater Cincinnati, as well as partners throughout the United States and around the world. Since 1991, Matthew 25: Ministries has grown from a small group of dedicated individuals carrying supplies in suitcases to an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization distributing over 15,000,000 pounds of products and helping approximately 20,000,000 people each year locally, nationally and internationally.

Caring For a Needy World… and For the Environment

Through the "Caring For a Needy World With the Things We Throw Away" program, Matthew 25: Ministries rescues and repurposes clothing, medical supplies, personal care items, school supplies, food and beverages, household supplies, cleaning products, reblended paint and micro-enterprise supplies – products that would otherwise have been landfilled or incinerated. In addition to providing ongoing humanitarian aid and disaster relief, recovery and rebuilding support to areas suffering from catastrophic disasters, Matthew 25 has a fleet of customized disaster relief vehicles and can respond quickly and effectively to domestic disasters throughout the US.

Creatively Repurposing Products to Help a Needy World

Matthew 25: Ministries has developed a number of specific programs designed to meet targeted needs throughout the US and worldwide including their Food Processing Center which produces a shelf-stable, nutritionally enhanced rice/soy blend for $.10 a serving; their Grow Right Micronutrient Supplement Program which enhances children’s nutritional health; their "Write Your Future" program which supports education through the manufacture of school notebooks and pencils; their Rainbow Paint Reblending Program which collects and reblends leftover latex paint.

Individuals, families and groups of all types can reach out and touch the world through Matthew 25: Ministries. Matthew 25 welcomes volunteers six days a week at their Blue Ash facility. Matthew 25 welcomed more than 58,000 volunteers who donated almost 139,000 hours of time in 2015.

Since 1991, Matthew 25 has shipped approximately 165,000,000 pounds of supplies valued at almost $1.5 billion to more than sixty countries around the world.
