NSC Football Scholars Win Title with Outstanding 6-0 Victory

Oswestry, United Kingdom, April 17, 2016 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire College’s (NSC) TNS Football Scholars played Sandwell College in the final of the Category 3 Premiership; the match was the title decider. NSC started the game the stronger side, dominating possession and creating chances just without the clinical finish. This changed at 10 minutes when Tom Ash reacted quickly in the box volleying the ball into the net from a well taken corner via James Hill! 1-0 NSC. After the goal, the rest of the first half was an equal contest with both sides creating chances. At the half way point the score ended 1-0 NSC.

The referee blew his whistle for the second half and within minutes Aiden Roxborough scored with clinical precision a cross goal finish assisted by Harrison Millington bringing the score to 2-0 NSC. At this point the game changed as NSC began to dominate, a 3rd goal followed quickly thanks to a great cross by Conner Wintin and a good finish by Joe Kelly at the back post. The fourth goal was scored by James Hill with a great strike into the roof of the net, 4-0 NSC. The fifth was scored by Josh Williams as he pressured Sandwell’s defence as he took it past the defender and hit the roof of the net. The final goal was scored by Tom Ash to complete his brace. The goal came from a well driven corner to the back post which was headed down by Rhys Hinton straight into the path of Ash bringing the score to 6-0 NSC.

Sport lecturer, Steve Benyon, commented on the team’s victory saying, "After a long and successful season, the players knew it all came down to the final game against previously undefeated Sandwell. The team had worked hard in terms of preparation both in and out of possession, as well as the possible scenarios that could take place. After receiving both their individual and team objectives, the squad performed amazingly well to out-battle, out-think and out-play their opponents to win the game 6-0, and in the process create history as the first college side to ever win their league. To say how proud myself, Steve Evans, TNS and the College are, is an understatement! We now go onto the National Championships in Newcastle to represent West Midlands; in what will be another fantastic experience for both TNS and North Shropshire College."
