Saving Trans Lives Through Art: A Collective Effort Needing Your Help

Miami, FL, April 21, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Transgender author Daliah Husu prepares to send off her thought-provoking memoir, I Am Woman: Surviving the Past, the Present, & the Future, to the Miami Beach TRANSART exhibit, after being invited to be a panelist and featured showcase at the lucrative event. The exhibit, which began showcasing transgender artists, poets, and writers in 2015, will continue to spotlight the talents and artistic visions of the transgender community, in an effort to nurture aspiring artists, create awareness, and educate the public of the multiple layers that form this community. Sponsored by The Betsy South Beach, Unity Coalition, The Miami Foundation, and others, TRANSART will be held in Miami Beach, FL from June 16th to June 18th, and will move north to Wilton Manors, FL, where it will showcase during the Stonewall Pride festivities from June 22nd through June 26th of this year.

“I’m excited and honored to be a part of this much needed and innovative event. All along, it has been my dream and vision to get involved in an event that allows trans men and women to freely express who they are through their art and words,” says Husu.

In her book, Husu illustrates the many struggles she has suffered throughout her life as a former man and now as woman, but she also emphasizes how she has turned her life around by sheer will and through writing. “I was in a dark place for many years, doing drugs every day and hating myself,” says Husu. “I finally found myself and my voice through my writing, and I pray that my words can help others in similar circumstances.” Husu has launched a GoFundMe campaign and is actively searching corporate sponsors to help cover the costs for her TRANSART exhibition. Donors and sponsors can contact Husu directly via email at contact@daliahhusu.com or fund her campaign through the GoFundMe website at gofund.me/daliahhusu.

“I’m hoping that others see the importance of events like TRANSART. This isn’t just about putting a painting on a wall or reading an excerpt from a book. This is about making a difference in the world and saving lives,” stated Husu.

Husu, along with TRANSART, its sponsors, and its artists, are paving the way for trans equality, acceptance, and social integration in American society. To learn more about TRANSART, its sponsors, and its artists, go to www.unitycoalition.org/Trans.html.
