Is Obama’s Deportation Policy Worse Than Trump’s Wall?

"Obama's Deportation Policy Aimed at Central American Refugee Women and Children is Worse than Trump’s Wall," says “Rocky” Roque De La Fuente, Democratic Presidential Candidate.

Is Obama’s Deportation Policy Worse Than Trump’s Wall?
San Diego, CA, May 24, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Last Thursday, Reuters reported that the Obama Administration has again approved a month-long series of raids designed to deport hundreds of Central American mothers and children found to have entered the country illegally.

In 2014, there was a large influx of unaccompanied minors as well as mothers and children fleeing violence and instability in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Rather than developing a humane refugee policy to provide asylum to these non-economic refugees, the Obama Administration continues to pursue a policy of detention and deportation as a deterrent to those coming to our country in fear of their lives and to seek asylum.

It has been well documented by civil society and the media that, during detention, many of these undocumented refugees have not been treated well and have not had meaningful access to counsel to raise their asylum claims. This lack of due process has resulted in many of these Central American refugee women and children receiving orders of deportation, which are now to be enforced.

“The Obama Administration’s deportation policy targeting Central American women and children refugees is just as wrong-headed, if not more so, than Donald Trump’s Wall,” said Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Democratic Presidential Candidate. “These women and children are coming to the U.S. for fear of their lives back home and not for economic reasons. For that reason, this new round of deportation will not discourage these moms and kids from making the dangerous trek north to the U.S.,” continued De La Fuente.

De La Fuente further stated, “In addition to dealing with the humanitarian and immigration policy issues at hand, the next President has to focus on the underlying causes of this mass exodus and seek to address those issues. Those causes include the major failure of U.S policy in Latin America. Indeed, there is no strategy for Latin America by the current Administration or by the other Democrats seeking the presidency. I have a strategy to engage Latin America when I am President because, as an entrepreneur, I have engaged with Latin America and produced economic development and jobs and supported humanitarian efforts, and I will continue to do so as President of the United States.”
