Improving Energy Security in Europe: The Role of Infrastructure Investment

SMi Reports: Topics on energy security including: alternative markets, financing options for renewable energy, and an overview of the offshore wind market will be discussed at SMi’s 16th annual Benelux Infrastructure Forum conference.

London, United Kingdom, July 10, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The global sphere is facing increased debate and discussion surrounding the use of renewable energy sources and environmental protections. New projects including battery energy storage, wind farms, and solar panels support the drive for clean energy and put pressure on countries relying upon unsustainable means.

SMi’s 16th annual Benelux Infrastructure Forum will address various sustainable energy and financing options for the Benelux region. Key themes of this conference, being held in Amsterdam, Netherlands in November, include alternative markets, financing options for renewable energy projects, and an overview of the offshore wind market.

Talking about alternative markets is Macquarie Capital’s Head of Energy and Infrastructure Benelux, Managing Director Willem Stitselaar. His presentation will speak to the Major trends and the latest developments in the Benelux Market. Nord LB’s Head of Infrastructure, Mathias Pahlke, will discuss ‘Achieving optimal profitability and project success from alternative infrastructure projects outside Private-Public Partnerships (PPP)’.

Financing options for renewable energy is a common theme of the conference, with speakers from Allen and Overy LLP, BNG Bank, and OMV Fund Management providing presentations. ‘Project Financing of wind parks that cannot rely on subsidies ‘, ‘Discussing green financing for green investment portfolios’, and ‘Challenges and opportunities for Investors in the Belgian PPP and renewable market’ will be given respectfully by representatives of these companies.

Green Investment Bank, Green Giraffe, and Ventolines will provide various points of perspective for an overview on the offshore wind market. Nick Gardiner of Green Investment Bank will talk about active international investors in Dutch offshore wind and how to further improve engagement. Green Giraffe’s Niels Jongste will give an update on the status of offshore wind tenders and perspectives on the market outlook. Finally, Karoy Hornyak of Ventoilines will talk about PPP in wind infrastructure.

Explore consequences of meeting increasing energy demands and the decarbonisation of economies. Review the lessons from current and past ESS and the bankability and profitability of these as examples of financial models for the future.

The conference further covers different project financing models within the Benelux region for infrastructure projects, the most current of which is Private Public Partnership (PPP). Alternatives such as project bonds, pension funds, government funding, and project financing will be discussed, as well as growing on and offshore markets investors are attracted to. Developments within the infrastructure market of the Benelux region in 2017 will be reviewed to find out what challenges were faced, how these were overcome and the outlook of the infrastructure market. The format of the conference will be an eclectic mix of presentations and round table discussions which allow plenty of debate and interaction amongst delegates and detailed analysis of the latest case studies.

In addition, the conference also features an exclusive pre-conference workshop on “Financing Offshore Wind in the New Competitive Auction Environment” hosted by, Amsterdam Capital Partners taking place on the 21st November 2017.

The conference has established itself as the industry-leading event for the Benelux region and will provide an unparalleled opportunity to learn and network amongst senior executives in this thriving industry. The Benelux Infrastructure Forum is the only place to meet the major players within this industry from banks, constructors and institutional investors to the lawyers and the regulators.

For those who are looking to attend, there is a £100 early bird offer available online ending on the 29th September 2017.
