This collection speaks to the rugged adventurer in all of us, whether traveling for business or pleasure.

Available for pre-order now at www.billykirk.com through October 4th, the collection is comprised of a weekender, tote bag, dopp kit, and accessories case.

A brief history of Thornproof Wool, crafted for over 100 years by Abraham Moon & Sons of England. Thornproof Wool is a highly durable tweed, originally created for hunters and outdoorsmen. Known for its classic salt and pepper appearance, it quickly became sought after by affluent and working men alike. Made with two-fold twisted yarns (as opposed to the standard single yarn), it is the most durable tweed available. The tight weave makes it near impenetrable and able to withstand heavy abrasion - hence the name, Thornproof.

The collection also features, Black Waxed Flesh, a reverse suede made by Horween Leather in Chicago. In WWII, it was common for military boots to be constructed from Horween's Chromexel. The boots were manufactured with the leather's "flesh" side facing out (known by the US Military as “roughout”) and ultimately coated by soldiers with Dubbin (a mixture of natural waxes and oils). This resulted in a waterproof coating. The fibrous flesh side of the leather allows for more wax to be applied and absorbed, adding to its effectiveness. Today, Waxed Flesh is the same leather with Dubbin applied at the tannery.
